Candles are an economical way to decorate a room. They add colour, scent and ambiance to dull areas and compliment an array of colour themes. The best thing about candles is that they're as great unlit as they are when they're lit!
To make a candle really shine, figuratively speaking, try grouping different shapes and heights together. This will create an attractive asymetrical cluster that draws attention to the eye.
If you want to make your candle blend into the décor of the room, incorporate items associated with that room in the display. In the kitchen, use coffee beans to fill a glass mug and place a tealight on top or in an aquatically-themed bathroom, place a tealight in an over-turned shell.
In a room with granite countertops, fill a plate with pillars and then cover the bottom of the plate with small river rocks. This not only adds texture to your display, it also adds harmony to your room. The options are endless! Just be sure to use items that are not flammable.
Many stores now sell candle rings that are decorated with beads, leaves and twigs and fit around the base of a pillar candle. Candle rings make it easy to change the look of your candle with the seasons. To learn more about the history of candles, click here.
Adding Fragrance to a Room
Incense, potpourri and refresher oils are great ways to add a splash of fragrance to a room. Potpourri slowly emits its scent over long periods of time; whereas, incence and refresher oils give a burst of fragrance with the help of some heat. To learn more about the history of incence, click here.
